During a recent
patch of boredom online, I came across a web site dubbed Useless-Knoweldge.com.
Aside from being catchy, the title itself provides a certain satirical
twist that I initially found both creative and distinctive. Indeed,
when something seems so cleverly inverted, doesn't that instigate
the desire to actually go through the content it provides? Of course.
Big mistake.
Number one: the site is littered by columnists who specialize in
the continued polarization of our current political system (specifically,
branding "liberals" as the cause of all the evil in our
world). Number two: a quick browse through half a dozen of their
columns suggest that the site doesn't have an active copy editor
on staff to proof these stories before they go live.
Consider, for
instance, a recent column written by Ken Hughes about the evils
of Hollywood liberals: http://www.useless-knowledge.com/12...article035.html.
I defy any person to read through this column and NOT trip over
any of the misspellings, punctuation or grammatical errors that
pollute the piece. If you get through it just fine, you are either
patient or lying.
Political commentaries
can be informative, interesting, persuasive, and even a little scary.
That's what politics is all about -- nothing is sacred, everything
is debatable. But if I want to read up on something of this nature,
shouldn't it at least be a requirement for the commentary to actually
be written with enough skill to at least make basic sense? Hell,
even hardcore conservative Ann Coulter writes more coherent stuff
than this.
